Over the last three years (2022-2025), Children's Parliament have been working with partners at the Scottish AI Alliance and The Alan Turing Institute to learn about the impacts of Artificial Intelligence (A.I) on children and their rights. Exploring Children’s Rights and A.I is an internationally groundbreaking piece of work and has led us to the launch of a new set of learning resources for educators and children.
Children's Parliament will introduce the resources they have produced to support upper primary teachers to explore children's rights and AI with their classes. By addressing children's rights alongside AI, the resources equip children to think critically about this powerful new technology and its impact on their lives.
The resource consists of 6 lesson plans with clear learning objectives for children in P5 to P7 including:
Developed with children and teachers through the project Exploring Children's Rights and AI, each lesson comes with a full plan, slides and printable resources. The activities have been trialled in the classroom and refined with feedback from teachers.
"The ideas for interactive games are great. I don’t think I have ever seen lesson plans with such detailed explanatory and background notes!" - Lucy, primary school teacher, Edinburgh
This Time to Think session will consider the critical leadership role in exploring AI through a children's rights approach and provide practical support to school communities.
This session runs from 4 - 5pm, is for AHDS members and is free to attend.
